My story (the short version)

As a fresh-faced NQT, I started out teaching Humanities and French, fuelled by coffee, big ideas, and zero work-life balance. Barely two years in, I became a statistic; I burned out so badly my doctor signed me off on mental health grounds.

When I finally decided to return to the classroom, I promised myself one thing: that it wasn't going to happen again.

How? By harnessing tech in any way I could to ensure that I could augment learning, increase student attainment, and support my own wellbeing at the same time.

In my next school, I took on the role of assistant head of History, with a side-role of leading staff and students in developing their digital skills. My task was simple on paper—show colleagues how tech could shave hours off their week—but in practice it meant re-imagining everything from feedback cycles to parent comms. Watching teachers reclaim their evenings and students smash their targets convinced me this work mattered.

Fast-forward to 2025 and I’m a full-time Director of Educational Technology at an international K-12 school, continuing my mission to ensure that EdTech in the classroom is purposeful and truly supports both students and teachers.

My litmus test for any EdTech tool:

  1. Does it deepen learning?
  2. Does it lift attainment?
  3. Does it protect wellbeing—for students and teachers?

If a tool can’t tick at least one of those boxes, I’m not interested.
